Enrolling In The Healthcare Marketplace

Healthcare.gov (English and Spanish – other languages are also available)

At healthcare.gov, patients can enroll in the Health Insurance Marketplace or find out if they qualify for Medicaid or CHIP. Remember – most people can only apply for coverage through the Marketplace during the annual enrollment period (enrollment period for coverage starting in 2017 is 11/1/2017 – 12/15/2017). People who change jobs, get married, or experience another "life change", however – are eligible to enroll anytime!

Notes

There are many local organizations (over 100!) that will help families enroll in the Marketplace, Texas Medicaid, or Texas CHIP. Go to https://localhelp.healthcare.gov and type in your patient’s zip code to find a convenient Health Insurance Marketplace Navigator to help your patients get through the system!

Just want to hand your patient a phone number to call for a patient navigator?

  • If you are seeing a patient on a Mon-Fri (from 8am-5pm) – call Gateway to Care at 713-783-4616.
  • If you have a Spanish-speaking patient, try Ventanilla de salud (located at the Mexican Consulate – but this is NOT just for patients who are Mexican!): 713-778-6105.
  • And if you are seeing a patient in the middle of the night or weekend – have them call the national ACA hotline at 1-800-318-2596
